The International Rubber Hardness Degree (IRHD) is a standardized method to understand the hardness of a rubber by using an indenter pressed into the sample at a given force. This test determines either the increase in hardness after a specified storage time or the time required for a specified increase in hardness to occur.

Common Standards

  • ASTM D1415 - Standard Test Method for Rubber Property—International Hardness
  • BS ISO 3387— Rubber. Determination of crystallization effects by hardness measurements
  • ISO 48 - Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic — Determination of hardness

About the Labs

At our rubber testing laboratories, we are able to process a wide variety of rubber compounds, sample sizes, and apply them to multiple test methods to understand rubber hardness.
