AMS 3216 covers a fluorocarbon (FKM) elastomer that is often used to manufacture components that often encounter fuels, synthetic lubricants, and specific hydraulic fluids, generally ranging from -20°F (-29°C) to 400°F (204°C). AMS 3216 is best for sheets, strips, tubing, extrusions and molded shapes made from FKM elastomers.

AMS 3216 includes a comprehensive list of physical property requirements and physical testing procedures for assessing this class of FKM elastomers, as well as acceptance tests for quality assurance.

AMS 3216 has a few limitations. It is not appropriate for molded rings, compression seals, O-ring cord, or molded-in-place gaskets for aerospace applications; these products are better suited to AMS 7276. Additionally, the FKM elastomers described in AMS 33216 are not suitable for contact with high temperature stabilized (HST) engine oils.
