Understanding the Rules for ISO 9001, IATF 16949, & AS9100 Certification Transfers
When you’ve made the decision to transfer your certificate(s) to a new certification body, knowing the rules for transfers can save you time, effort, and money. We’ve compiled some of these rules by standard below as a quick reference for your convenience. ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and ISO 13485:2016: You can transfer your certificate at any stage of your three-year cycle. However, be sure to check with your current certification body before transferring to understand what audit cancellation fees may apply and when. Typically, if you transfer a minimum of 60-90 days before your next scheduled audit, you can avoid paying audit cancellation fees.
AS9100:2016: Like ISO 9001 on which it based, you can transfer your AS9100 certification at any time in your three-year cycle, with a couple of provisions:

A transfer audit must be conducted by your new certification body to ensure the QMS is in place and operational since the last audit. Typically, this is a one-day activity, after which your new certificate will be issued.

If you are transferring within 12 months or less of your certificate expiration date, the new certification body must conduct a Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit.using re-certification duration.
And as above, check your current certification body’s contractual terms and conditions to ensure you are aware of potential audit cancellation fees.
IATF 16949:2016: Transferring your IATF 16949:2016 certification is straight-forward once you know the rules.

You can only transfer your IATF 16949:2016 certificate once per three-year certificate cycle.

A transfer audit must be conducted by the new certification body and this audit must be conducted at recertification audit duration. Since all IATF 16949:2016 certified companies are on the same three-year cycle as of 2018, many considering transfers will do so in 2021 to avoid having to conduct audits at recertification duration two years in a row.
Of course, also consult your current certification body’s contractual terms and conditions to understand their specific audit cancellation policies and fees.
