(Shawbury, UK) – July 2, 2024 - Smithers, a leading provider of testing, consulting, information, and compliance services, announces the upcoming opening of a new laboratory near Frankfurt, Germany, dedicated to testing medical devices and pharmaceutical products. As part of Smithers Medical Device Testing Division, this new laboratory will provide drug delivery device testing services to clients in Europe and around the globe.
The new Smithers facility features roughly 800 square meters of office and laboratory space. The facility is currently being outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, which will be used to increase testing capabilities and capacity. The new facility is centrally located in mainland Europe, strategically placed only 12 km from Frankfurt Airport. This location will facilitate quicker and more convenient transport of client samples for testing, as well as allow for regular client visits.
Smithers Medical Device Testing Division assists pharmaceutical product manufacturers throughout the product life cycle. Smithers testing services can support early feasibility studies, together with engineering verification. Smithers also provides data for regulatory submissions including design verification and batch release. Furthermore, Smithers expertise can be used for failure investigations and post market surveillance. Smithers provides standard and nonstandard testing (ISO, ASTM or Pharmacopeia) on a wide range of combination products, medical devices, accessories, and packaging to ensure that the product is compliant and fit for use.

Smithers Frankfurt Laboratory is expected to be operational in the coming months and is already taking orders and enquiries in readiness as further services and capacity opens in 2024 and beyond.
